On behalf of the Tarawera Ultramarathon I'd like to thank all of the volunteers who helped make this event a memorable experience. There were so many individuals that I am afraid I'll miss someone out if I listed you individually. I'd like to express my appreciation for the following groups, The Rotorua District Council, Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust, Events Rotorua and The Rotorua Redwoods Visitors Centre.
There were around 50 volunteers between the Rotorua Redwoods and the finish line in Kawerau. Special thanks to the volunteers from the Rotorua Mountain Bike Club for proving on-course volunteers. The Kawerau volunteers were superb, reliable and went above and beyond the call of duty, there were so many individual volunteers out there, but also many from The Kawerau Harrier Club, Gravity Sports Club, Kawerau District Council and TOI-EDA.
Thanks to the care and consideration of staff at the Department of Conservation, Rotorua and to the people of the iwi of Ngāti Tarawhai, Ngāti Rangitihi and Ngāti Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau.
Thanks to the Tarawera Land Trust, Hancock Forestry and ISCL for access to the Tarawera Forest for tis event.

Mt Edgecumbe (Pūtauaki) is a 821 metre high volcano which forms part of the ‘line of fire’ from Mt Tongariro, through Tauhara and Tarawera mountains to Whakaari (White Island). Each year the Kawerau Harriers hold the King of the Mountain Race up and down its steep, scoria slopes.
