A Message from Mayor Chadwick

Tēnā koutou katoa

I am delighted that Rotorua wil be welcoming our home-grown and international athletes back in 2021 to take part in New Zealand's most prestigious trail ultra.

We had little understanding of the impact of Covid-19 when the last Tarawera Ultra was held just a few months ago and we are fortunate that after a short lockdown, New Zealanders are once again able to make the most of what our country has to offer, with few restrictions.

Rotorua is vewry much open for business, and Kiwi's are still flocking here to holiday and immerse themselves in the great outdoors and rediscover our geothermal landscape, forest trails and lakes. We can't wait to welcome our international visitors back to enjoy the unique manaakitanga, or hospitality, of our place.

I know the Tarawera Ultra Marathon team have been working very hard over the last few months to ensure that the 2021 trail ultra is the best event yet and Rotorua is certainly ready to host you and the other 3000 plus participants expected to compete in next year's event.

Nau mai, haere mai ki Roitorua.
